The Wouxun KG-UVN1 Update...DMR User Database Now Supported.

The Wouxun KG-UVN1 now supports the DMR User Database.
Hello DMR Fans, Rick here, KG7GUO for  I have some very exciting news for you.
Wouxun has updated the Firmware for the KG-UVN1 and the Programming Software, I am pleased to announce, the KG-UVN1 now supports the DMR User Database.
It will now allow 160,000 DMR User Contacts, and 10,000 TX (Talk Group) contacts. This is an awesome update.
To make this possible, they reduced the record time for recording call audio from 8 hours down to 2 hours, which is not a big deal, because how often do you need to record your calls anyway?  I don't ever have a need to use this feature, but some may like it.
This update pretty much makes the UVN1 my favorite radio of the radios I own.
The import process is pretty simple and straight forward.

From the programming software, simply click on program and select Dmr Database.

Click on Import and select the file you want to import.  I grabbed the Raw file from

Wouxun KG-D901 Hands On Review By KG7GUO

So I wanted to do a Hands on Video of the Wouxun KG-D901.  I am really impressed with the audio quality of this radio.  In my previous review, I have a video showing some of the quirks of the radio but it didn't highlight the audio quality.

I think the audio quality of this radio by Wouxun is definitely better than my video quality and narrating abilities. Haha

I notice when on the DMR mode, you hear a lot of people with a lot of different radio models, but you rarely hear anyone say they are using a Wouxun.  I am not sure why that is, other then the fact, availability might be an issue.  There are not a lot of retailers selling the Wouxun brand.

I picked up my 901 at on closeout.

I have been communication with Wouxun directly and am looking to pick up the Dual band model DMR radio, the KG-UVN1

I will definitely post a review of that model when I receive it.

I think Wouxun could make quite a splash in the DMR Arena if they make the radios more readily availabl…

Wouxun KG-D901 Review

Wouxun KG-D901

I recently purchased a new DMR radio to add to my collection.  The Wouxun KG-D901 Digital DMR radio.
I currently also own a TYT MD-380 and a Radioddity GD-77.
While the Wouxun does not have a lot of Bells and Whistles, I have become very fond of it.
The Radio has a lot of nice features, but it does have a couple of quirks.  I will try to point out the Pro's and Con's.
Pros: Color Screen, easy to readGood audio qualityFeels great in the handEasy to programLighted Keypad

Cons: When in the menu, if there is activity on the radio it drops you out of the menuWhen sending SMS, it runs all the words together without spacesNo firmware updatesCan Not add the User Database

Overall, it is a well built radio that feels nice in the hand.  It has a lot of potential.  I hope Wouxun continues to make DMR radios, I think they are on the right track.
I see on the Wouxun website, there is a couple other DMR radios that I can not find available for purchase anywhere.  Not sure when …
